September 2009

Welcome to Fall! As long as the weather permits, remember to include the Carmans River Sanctuary and Nature Trail in your Fall activities. Brochures are available at the trail head.

On Saturday, September 26 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. we are planning an appraisal tea - Tea and Treasures. The donation of $10 will include light refreshments and one item for a verbal appraisal. Christopher Swift, a local, well known and experienced appraiser will conduct the event. We look forward to a fun afternoon. Reservations are not necessary, but if you would leave your name as planning to attend on our answering machine, 924-3401, we would appreciate it.

On Sunday, October 11 at 4:00 p.m. the Society invites members and friends to join in celebrating its 35th Anniversary. ,The featured speaker will be Tricia Foley, a longtime member of the Society and the community. Tricia's career in design and style have been intertwined with Yaphank and its history for over 28 years - come hear the stories! Light refreshments will be served.

On Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., the Society will welcome ghosts and goblins (ages 12 and under accompanied by an adult), to our fifth annual Halloween Treat for Tots at the Hawkins House. The House and Society members will be costumed ghoulishly! Packaged treats will be given out.

Preparations for the holiday season will begin at our Dinner and Dusting on Saturday, November 21. We will begin cleaning the Hawkins House at 10:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m., with dinner at 5:00 p.m. Two hours or so at polishing furniture, washing knick-knacks, cleaning windows and more, will make the workload lighter for all and entitle you to dinner. Please leave a message at 924-3401 if you plan to attend.

The Society is not presenting a Christmas Candlelight House Tour this year.

The Victorian Dinner is Saturday, December 12, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Our marvelous Chef Candy has planned a wonderful menu. The donation for the dinner if $45.00 per person (gratuities not included). Our next newsletter will contain more details on the dinner.

Hope to see you at one or all of these events .... - Helen Kalbach, President
